E-Book’s

There has been a rapid growth in the popularity of E-books since 2010. The emergence of smart phones, Ipads and Kindle’s means that people are not confined to reading on their computer or laptop they are able to read on their daily commute or during their lunch break. I am thinking of developing an idea for my assingment centered around E-books perhaps a site that combines E-books with social features or an App for E-books

Online Media Trends

For the past few days I’ve been doing research in to the lastest online media trends but haven’t come up with an idea for the assingment yet, however I have a few avenues of interest from my research. Picture blogging sites are a big trend lately as people are moving away from using lots of text and instead are keeping the text minimal and using lots of pictures to tell their stories. Instagram a picture blogging site has become increasingly popular, and so has Pinterest. Pinterest is a pinboard-style social photo sharing website that enables users to create theme based image collections and browse or share with other users pin-boards. I am thinking I could possibly base the assingment on a way to build on the current image trend such as designing an App for image blogging in a fun way

First Assessment

For my first assessment I have to come up with a proposal for a new online media product or a way to improve an existing one, develop the idea and give a presentation on it to the lecturers and an industry expert. The specification for this assessment is quite broad which makes it exciting but since the internet is so developed it is also challenging to come up with an original idea. However this is a challenge that everyone from industry experts to the student who has just graduated in multi-media and wants to work online have to work with. New online media and communication products are emerging all the time as well as improvements being made to existing ones which show that it is possible. In our tutorial today we discussed coming up with ideas and I learnt the importance of creative thinking and thinking outside of the box as there is an increasing demand for innovative online products.

Audio Slideshows

Today I had a tutorial on online video and I must say it was a real eye opener for me. I see video slide shows all the time online but I didn’t consider the power they hold until today.  As a medium online slideshows are fairly simple to produce as in theory all you need is image, audio and editing software. However producing a quality slideshow is something of an art. You need to have a wide selection of pictures that are varied and interesting, audio and spend a great deal of time putting it together so that the images work really well with the sound. We had a guest speaker who actually works for the BBC come in and he spoke about Infographics and Data Journalism and demonstrated some of the possibilities.

Today was the introduction to the module, we discussed blogs and research and tracking new trends online. Blogs are a great way of sharing information, connecting with people and expressing opinions and views. For many companies and organizations Blogs are a tool for marketing and advertising their products. Since the rise in the popularity of Blogging, Blogs are used by just about everyone and for a variety of reasons however when it comes to the media industry Blogs play a leading role by becoming a medium for story telling just like newspapers, magazines and news sites

Hi, my names Florence and welcome to my blog. I am a Journalism student, and as part of my course I am currently studying a module on online journalism. I will be using this blog to document my journey towards advancing both my understanding and knowledge of online journalism and will be revealing new online trends, and developments in online media technology as well as my thoughts and reflections on these topics, as I plan and launch some  projects centered around online media.
